The new set-up

My cousin had a headache and a half trying to build me a new machine, but 2 usb internet sticks that failed and 3 os's later, I have a working machine. One on Kubuntu (linux) no less.

It's working out pretty well so far. My new machine can't run flash, so my upstairs laptop is planned to be my new 'work' comp and run it instead, being as it still runs windows. The hope is that it doesnt get too bogged down by such a large program, but aside from my files and it, theres not much on the laptop. Plus all the files on the laptop are on a portable offline safely if it does.
I just gotta install all the programs on the laptop now.

Aside from computer business, not much else has been going on. There's a mad heat wave here (I think its 33 celsius today?) which is pleasant to a point, but even I can overheat.

RIpieces

Yesterday after work, I tried going on my computer and watching Youtube vids as I normally do. While doing so, my computer froze solid. Mouse wouldn't move, keyboard was moot. I restarted, and it worked normally again.
For about 20 minutes.
Then it froze again. And again. Then it, instead of freezing, just restarted.
I put it in safe mode to see what was going on, and it claimed some network issue was behind it.
My cousin tried to fix it, then we decided that maybe this was a sign to install a new OS.

So I dumped my files to his portable, and we installed kubuntu (Linux). At first the internet gave issue, but it turned out to be a wireless usb internet stick that didnt work with linux, which was replaced successfully.
The new setup worked...until the monitors started to black out randomly.
And thus we figured out..my motherboard was malfunctioning.

Now I'm deciding wether to buy new computer, new parts to replace the broken motherboard, or buy a second-hand from a trusted source.
All I can say is, my comp is toast, and its happened so fast. Damn curveballs.

ps yes the gary folder is safe and continues to live on

Wrench in the gears

Car puns. Yep that's how we're ROLLING around here.

*Bah dum tshhhh*

So I've gotten word that the station manager job has already been filled, and spoilers: It's not me. Though I'm sort of relieved about that, because with my current job, another one in the fall would've really complicated things. I am still sad about not getting it but ah well. I just gotta be happy with the success I am having and TRUCK on.

The voice demo thing is indefinitely sorta maybe not but maybe so but no idea happening. It'll be cool if it works out but it's a free service for something normally paid so if it doesnt happen no biggie. I might just schedule a real deal appointment and fork monies over if I really want it that bad.

Later this summer, I'm going to be involved in scouting out places to help a certain PTEr. This is going to be good for both parties since he needs a place and we'll both be learning about how to get apartments and what to look for, etc. After staying with my sister I have a vague idea of what moving out on ones own entails (Especially when paired with year 2 and its monetary hemorrhage hell), so it'll be nice to learn more and have a better idea of what I'm going to be up against sometime in the next few years.

I must now end this post in yet another car pun as I am DRIVEN to do so.

Tube Plugs

I'm 3 days in to my new job, and so far it's going pretty alright. I can't help shake a feeling of being a nuisance, since I'm still learning and don't have all the procedures and protocol down.
But I'm trying to stay optimistic and try my best to get less awful at everything.

Work aside, not much else is going on. I've been watching one of my friends from uni play-through of Paper Mario, he's got me hooked at the very least, didn't even know he made let's plays!
Speaking of friends doing let's plays, The only known New City PTE reader has been making videos recently too! (You're welcome Dyland)

On the note of Youtube, I've found some of the other usual people I've been following on Youtube are shifting their content to try to appeal to different audiences, and in that, I'm finding I'm less and less inclined to watch their stuff.
Because of that, I'm not as interested in doing Youtube as I once was. The regiment required to stay profitable, the taxation of time needed to produce quality content, and the ability to stay interesting and engaging just seems way above my head. Not to mention I have zero clue how the behind the scenes works, or how a youtube career even 'begins'. (I get upload videos get views, but after that it's "??? profit" to me)
Maybe someday, but maybe something else. Shall see what happens.

The great return

I blew smoke saying PTE wouldn't have a lack of posts during the trip, but it was a very eventful trip, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Staying with my sister was actually really nice, and the more central location certainly helped. I was actually able to see many long time friends, some which I've missed on prior trips, so really glad things worked out that way.
I also managed to pull off a large party before leaving, though I admit I needed help from a certain someone to help organize things and such. But IMO it was really fun and I was really happy to get to see so many people.

Now I'm back here in New City. Tomorrow my new job starts, I have no idea how it will go and I'm sort of nervous but it's only a 4 hour shift so it shouldn't be super hard. But I've been told it'll slowly ramp up (all pun intendo) so we'll see how that goes. I'm excited too for it for what it's worth.

Aside from the job, there's not much else I've got planned as of yet. I am planning to do some number crunching soon to see the prospects of living on my own in certain cities and towns (Range being New City and Hometown and towns inbetween the two). I may make another post about that later.

Back to business as usual.
