2014: In Review

Perhaps the greatest posts of all, it's the annual mega post recapping the insanity of the year!

someday this will be archieved and read in textbooks and ok nevermind dont save this please

Anyway!

January: The year started with a trip out of country to a place where the air doesn't hurt the face. As I had not yet hit the big 21 I was entertained to be seen as underage. I then had issues with the infamous bump shifts. (those shifts where your boss goes 'need you to stay kthxbye' with malicious implications of non acceptance)
Then there was a post about the ever aging van (1999-2014), and another work post when some things went down and work seemed to be getting worse. (enough to make me want to just quit, but thats nothing new) I then somehow got employee of the month (Jan 2014 nevar forget) and some other awards which felt shady but its probably I just don't understand retail chain politics.
It was around this time that the interview for the radio program was set up. As well, this was the time when the one and only PTE TEST YOUR LUCK was created. (That things like 11 months old now whoa how time pass...)
Thereafter the interview happened. I didn't feel very confident in how I did (It sounded like I'd be likely getting waitlisted...) but the infamous Zoo (Enzo) was in town so it was still partying times.

February: And when I say partying times I mean we partied hard. HARD. There's video that will maybe one day ruin my career probably, but such is life. Zoo was able to stay extra due to getting a person to take a shift for him.
We also ruined a laptop keyboard, lol.
After Zoo's stay, (and after recovering) my uncle came to town for his usual ski visit.
Things got hyper busy, but PTE still got the usual treatment for V-Day. (cmon we kept it pg this year)
I then overthought PTE posting which happens every single day and always will because posting is an art.
EVEN THIS POST IS ART.
Granted its like macaroni on paper by a preschooler but THE MOTHER LOVES IT maybe.
Continuing: I made a massive post discussing Pegvlog and why I believed it failed, which led to the follow up on why I was wrong to think it failed and further discussion on what PTE was.
Though blunt in my words, it led to quite a bit of discussion, which I view as positive. (I enjoy the response to posts but I don't wanna upset people, tricky tricky)
The 14 comment post ended the month.

March: The month started with the inception of the What is PTE? page, and the introduction to the idea that PTE has things that make it PTE. (aside from the name of course) The Epic Longcoat broke and was retired. (LL still cringes over that coat, its pretty great rofl) Then my sister came to town to visit, and during that time I was cleared by work for some time off (but not the entire time asked for due to booking restrictions). The time off coincided with seeing a certain someone.
I celebrated Internetwork Day because I'm a dork like that. (at least im not a peter heheh)
Then I tried to get the Sim City Addiction back but my computer deleted itself (figuratively) when I tried so I accepted my fate and still cant open that pandora box to this day.

April: The month started with the announcement of the new collaboration blog with Snowfire, which not surprisingly fell apart quickly due to directional differences. (read: apparently snowfire had no recollection of ever agreeing to the idea in the first place)
I then scrapped the radio project and avoided a bump shift.
I then turned a million and legal everywhere.
Then I cleaned base 50 and found out I was doomed forever to creative and moneyless work.
Finally ending the month, I hosted PTE's first ever contest!
The 'K-Day' contest was a competition to find two secrets within a silly quiz game thing I made. Gamer Jay won and had his banner posted for the month of May.

May: PTE came back from a short hiatus, and to kick off the month, TayDay was celebrated. So celebrated it got its own page named the TayDay Shennanigans.
The page was merely just about a designing test done using a random game on the internet.
Also though no post was never made, it was around this time that I indeed got accepted into Radio, and signed up for the classes.
The internet at my house then died and I tried to fix it and I 'did' and oh god our internets still called "rics nedtwsorgkm"...
Then I made the 'Initiators Vs Reciprocators' post which if I was to try to give a good example of a 'good' PTE post I'd go with this one, its at least an interesting read but then again I'm just proud for figuring out the obvious: Conversation is an art. (before you say it yes there is many things which are an art and they all seem to have creativity in common. I find anyway. feel free to discuss that further if it interests you. or any part of this post really...)

June: J-Day was celebrated (its important too...!), work got heavier again, Parents had a vaca and returned, RTC became a readdiction (beat it again, yay for the one of like 4 games I'm not totally garbage at!)
I then theorized a law (welcome to PTE, we discuss the implications of unknown factorials in conversation settings and what if zelda was a girl) about luck. (Read up on it if it interests you!)
Then I got smacked in the head at work, which lead to the Bonkers Fiasco. Long story short I got in trouble for being a dongo and so I remind again if you get dinged at work, do the stupid paperwork. Saves you from being fired and other asinine crap, and covers your work from fines and things. Basically either you both get burned or neither.
I gotta admit, I find that a very clever system.
I then dealt with customers being customers and we're leaving it at that k
Oh retail.
Then celebrated Tino Day, because why not?

July: I posted a secret message. Then I posted a secret clock. Then I had work as always.
Then I revealed the mystery clock to be the clock of when I'd put in my two weeks notice.
I made it for solid reasons, not a quit because 'I couldn't handle it', but because I now had a radio program to focus on, I didn't want retail getting in the way.
I then counted down finishing the job, I wanted to be free of it so bad. (I also wanted to go out on a good note though hence the two weeks and yeah. Two weeks drags out though.)
I then freaked out from quitting my job (woops) but soon recovered.
But then got a bajillion times worse when I got FOOD POISONING WOOOOOOOO

August: The month began with hints of an endless recursion of time.
Then I had the trip, wherein PTE had a hiatus.
I ended up recovering from food poisoning, only to accidentally ingest raw egg and get sick again.
I'm fairly certain I've had both Samonella and Ecoli this year. (Or twice of one. All I know is THIS IS WORSE THAN VENDING MACHINE BURGERS HOW DO I OUTDO MYSELF. AND BETTER YET: WHYYYYYY)
I ended the month with mimicking a certain end of episode of a show wherein an endless recursion of time occurs.

September: I start the month by "Fixing" PTE test your luck (Broke around the 17th of august...).
Then school started, Radio program and university were for reeeeeal.
First impression was everyone was a jock and I didn't fit in.
But that all soon faded when I got word that I'd be going on air in a booth, broadcasting worldwide. (Yeah i get it 'but riccy its only internet radio' this is farther than I'd ever get myself so let me have this one)
Then I got into a car accident and a mad blizzard nailed New City and wrecked trees and houses and things.
I respect Autumn now..
Things calmed down, and I started trying to prepare and organize for my radio show. (This was and still is a big deal to me.)
I took down the TayDay Shennanigans, and celebrated PTE's 5th Birthday.
Still weird to think I've been doing stuff with this blog over 5 years. Also weird that Jennys Quiz is 2 years old, Jenny's Game 4 years ago now...Time flies.
Anyway, the 5th anniversary post brought up the creation of Radio Free Riccy, the spiritual successor to the Radio Project and the radio show affiliated with PTE.
I then created a new character, based on a good friend of mine from school.
After I made the post about a certain club which was giving me cold feet.
Then the Games Tab came out, as a solution to mini-games I made which were too small to be uploaded on their own but needed viewership to help me improve them and my coding as a whole.

October: The month started with a post about my stomach.
If PTE was to sum me up it'd be:
Hilarious Decisions and the man who can't stomach them.
Bah dum tshhhhh
Anyway, after a mix-up, things got sorted out and RFR (Radio Free Riccy) got it's correct time slot for the semester.
I then posted the infamous (Ok sorry for the overuse but I do nutty things often it seems...) 'Are the Jenny Games Sexist?'
The post proved important as it taught me more about what is and is not 'sexist' and it gave me awareness about the perception of the "Ric Olzow" franchise as a whole.
(I'm working to improve it know that k)
I tried to upload RFR content online. Rofl.
COPYRIIIIIIIIIIIGHTS.
Also (typically) swears on air are a no go I told you this now kay.
Upon request, the next post was a post about life decisions which in summary said 'HOMETOWN YEAHHHHHH' which i cant blame because I understand the wisdom behind it.
Decisions, decisions.
I then made a post about how making radio shows was getting (is getting) progressively more intensive. (4 hours writing, 3 hours picking music. I try hard.)
And mentioned 'The Monday Crew'.

November: I handed out candy. B-B-B-B-B-BREAKING NEWSSSSSSS
Alright I also mentioned my next semester's courses, and I mentioned a live improv show. (I travelled far from the cold feet...)
I then paid tribute to A CONNIVING AND EVIL HACKER (hi snowfire),
Whilest being panicked about the improv show.
The show itself went surprisingly great and I actually enjoyed it but srsly dont tell snowfire or ashley k.
I then got bombarded with assignments, celebrated Amy Day and attempted to advertise Radio Free Riccy (I'm really bad at it...), deleted the Daily Squee Page cuz it stopped working, did Movember, then dropped plans of a Hometown trip in December.

December: Assignment crush. I mean, it beats bump shifts, broken box businesses and bonkers fiascos, but only by a smidgeon. It still was rough.
Radio Free Riccy entered hiatus for the holidays. (btw RFR entered hiatus for the holidays. ...I told erryone k) It will return in January. (Day and time may change. Check RFR Page for details, they should be available Early January!!)
Continuing: Made a post about the comic 'Mr. University' (which i forgot to bring and just realized and dangit!! guess i gotta make it digital eventually then or somethin...)
explaining how there's still projects and comics and things I'm doing aside from RFR. (Also introducing the now named Dyland. Best new character 2014?)
I then made the post for Je- ANNIVERSARY POST 3 YEARS YEAH!!
Then came the plan announcement for coming to Hometown to visit for Christmas. (First Hometown Xmas in 7 years...!)
I then got to Hometown, spending holidays among family and friends here. I got the Radio Free Riccy T-Shirt. (I will be wearing that thing like mad, advertisingggg yeah!!)
I made a post for K-Day, and mentioned how I enjoyed the new smash bros game for being able to make playable Ric Olzow characters in a fighting game. (And having them fight against Nintendo characters and such... A man can dream...)

If I compare this year to 2013, I can at least say it was eons better. Food poisoning was unfortunate, and I had issues and problems here and there (no year is ever perfect) but overall things went rather well this year. I'm happy with how things have improved since leaving Hometown, though I know no matter how much I want to deny that city, the people in it will leave my heart divided. (New City has awesome people too though, the great divide lives on...)

Here's to hoping 2015 mimics 2014 in awesomeness!
...and not in food poisoning.

What do you hope for in 2015?

Fight me Jenny

I enjoy the new smash bros game out, it's sitting as my favourite so far for one selfish but expectable reason:
Miis.
Though that part isn't what makes it selfish, its making Ric Olzow characters as miis that is.

I was rather entertained though how it turned out, Riccy (had a cowboy hat, heh) was quick but weak, relying on fast attack and sword. Tino was strength with some defense, using fists. Tim was a split attack defense using ranged weapon.
Jenny used fists like tino but was all strength, Amy used a gun like Tim but was all defensive, and Taylor used a sword like Riccy but was pure speed.
Taylor
was
crazy
deadly.

I was thoroughly entertained how ridiculous her character was, and how she'd win every round as long as it was a fight.
I did terrible as her for the homerun challenge (launching a punching bag).
It was fun to play a Ric Olzow fighting game without breaking codes and crashing computers for hours.
But I plan on more RO crap next year so beware or something.

cya on the YEAR IN REVIEW

Happy K-Day!

I didn't have time to draw a picture or design anything so here's this instead

The secret is out

I am back in hometown and safe and sound!

Also check this out!!:

The one and only Gamer Jay designed and bought me a Radio Free Riccy T-shirt for Christmas!
This is technically the first ever Ric Olzow Merchandise.

That's all for now, more updates soon!

Homebound

It's as official as it can get: The plan is set, the dates are named, the halfway hotel is booked. December 18th after my last exam, I am peace-ing out of New City.
Only for a visit though.

I'll be there for roughly 15 days, back early January. Not sure if PTE posting will be affected (I'm bringing my laptop and hope to at least get to do the year in review), if it is here's the warning.

This trip has great magnitude as it will be the first Christmas spent in Hometown in over 7 years. (While living there I always flew back, and when I was here...well, I was here.)

To Hometowners:
-Yes we're driving
-Yes this means I'll have transport means
-But that means ya gotta work with me cuz I work around 3 schedules.
-Both parents and I are going.

I think I covered all the details, but in case I missed something...comment section open as always.

words words words.

3 Years

Today is the 3 year anniversary of Kaitlin and I. I could be a gush-storm of awkward romance but this is PTE, we do things differently.

3 years is amazing to me. 3 years was the dauntingly long time that kept me away from hometown. 3 years was the fuel that led to PTE. 3 years was a long countdown that showed true colours of a friendship.
3 Years is a long time. That's all I can say.

So if you're reading this Kaitlin, Go Us! And thank you, for taking a chance on me.

In other news, hometown plans are definitely a go, the leave date is somewhere between the 18th-20th, we're aiming for early as possible but I have an exam on the 18th so we'll see.

Also Amplitude is coming to PS3 and Ps4 next year. Found that out this morning by accident, but it's the first game I've been truly excited for in a while.

Oh yeah I also forgot it's also J

WOO ANNIVERSARY

Dopyrights

Remember that post back in September where I introduced that character? If not a convenient link should be there..anyway, that character was a Realgen of a friend at uni, which got fine tuned and named since then. Here's how he looks now:

The "Mr. University" tagline is actually in reference to a new series of comics I've been working on. (Technicallytwo other people have drawn a comic each...) They're loose-leaf sketches as always, but I've been contemplating turning them digitally and posting them. Where is just the question...I never know where I should be posting my comics.
Then again I never know what to do about anything Ric Olzow so welcome to the great secret shh dont tell anyone k.

This 'Mr. University' comic features mostly Dyland and is about antics in University life.

As for Dyland's logo...its a parody of the copy right logo (which is apparently copyrighted, what) which suits the character since its inspiration got associated with positively viewing copyrighting. (And also wears copyrighted logos in the places the D symbols are)

As far as I know D with a circle around it isn't copywritten, but maybe someday.
BY ME
EVIL LAUGHTER

thats all for now, cya for Jen- ANNIVERSARY POST!

"Make a real post"

Schools almost finally finishing this semester. I still have two assignments left (and could potentially still get a third today...), which one of the two are due during exams, which I find really irritating. Especially cuz I have an exam the morning its due. And a final test two days prior of that exam. There's going to be very limited study time...

I may be going home(town) for Christmas. It's confirmed as far as I'm concerned, the only things left in the way is my dad has a work trip right before it so details are being bumped out. (Plus my last exam is right before estimated departure day also) Length is also still indeterminate.
More details when available.

Ric-Olzow things have taken a backseat and then some due to the busy nature of school. I have no idea how JQ ever when at school, though being in general studies may be the reason..

Radio Free Riccy will have it's potential final show for this semester on this Saturday. Thereafter the shows will be optional until semester two, but the only other show i could do is one on the 13th. I'll be out of town (see above) for any thereafter until January.
I may not do the one on the 13th for studying and packing.

weo weo real posttttttt

[Edit]

Daily Squee App is apparently no more so that page is gone.

I did the Movember Challenge (unofficially), can't wait to shave my face Monday.

Been having lots of assignments and stuff due hence posts being spotty and short.

I might be going to Hometown for Christmas, further updates in December.

Das all for now.

Amy Day

Catch RFR tonight for a show about comics and stuff

Improv Show!

It was set up kind of like a game show, it was 4 teams against each other, using improv games to drive a points system. Each team that got selected would send 1-2 players to act. I liked that system because I wasn't required to get up very often... That said, I did get up (totally willfully I swear) twice!
I had more trouble the second time because the final thing was a final showdown and it was for a "Mid-life crisis musical" (I feel like with musicals if you ain't planned it out it ain't gonna be good.) long story short it was somewhat incoherent but I just stuck to a car joke.

How it finished: My team won! It was very exciting. We won chocolate bars, which based on the plethora of candy I already have was an unwanted prize.
And yet I still ended up with one of em because the other teammates were like 'Nah thanks'.

Also, my parents and cousin were there, which was nice to have the support. My mom decided to seat them second to front row though, which certainly tuned up the difficultly, but I managed. (My mom also claims her cheering was partly what made us win, I don't dispute it, I'm becoming a champ at situations that would kill my sister of embarrassment)

She also ended up winning the "guess the # of foods in a jar" thing, which was candy YET AGAIN but it was cool she won. (There was also a money prize but my mom gave it back to support the club, I thought that was classy.)

So in conclusion Ashley and Snowfire were right but don't tell them k

Tribute (and The Destruction of Eric Riccy)

can't forget to pay tribute to our new overload (see last years post if this doesnt make sense)

I have the improv show tomorrow and the nervousness is hitting me now in full force and its definitely too late to bail now. My parents and cousin and maybe even grandmother are all going so I gotta try my best to fail gracefully.
iodsfaiosdjfasiodjfasdfisoajdfsdf
It's been YEARS since i was last on stage. (about 3 actually...)

We'll see what happens.

Post-Halloween

I took forefront in candy handing out this year, and though I was nervous about it (some things never change...) I did it with great success!
My dog was a knucklehead about it but ehhhh she's a noob what can I do.
Also anyone who enjoys cuteness should envy me because my customers would cause the strongest of hearts to palpitate.

On a different note, as per promised, I have roughly my next year courses to explain. I say roughly because I haven't gotten into the last one as of yet, but big money no whammy...
Anyway, I'll have 'Advanced Radio Operations', which is a required course and also just the next semester extension of a course I'm in. I'll be (hopefully) in 'Radio commercial Writing', that one will fit my schedule perfectly, else I'll be in 'Radio News' and the story changes. (All pun intended.)
For my program, those are the required courses. For electives:
"Innovation" (Science-y Gen-ed)
"Conflict and the social context" (Psych-y Gen-Ed)
"Intro to Public Speaking" (Self Explanitory)

Here's to hoping that all goes fine and dandy.

One final thing I'll bring up in this post is the fact I might be in a live improv show.
Remember how I said I'd say more about improv club later?
yeah I dropped the ball THIS IS LATER
So anyway, I signed up for this inadvertently, because I thought it was something I was supposed to do, as opposed to optional. Now that I know, I could opt out. That said I feel like I should at least try doing a show once. If I hate it or ruin things horribly then okay fair but AT LEAST IM TRYING THINGS CMON LOOK AT ME GO
Anyway, as you might have guessed from above: my view on Improv has IMPROVed (im on fire woo) to the point where I've been still consistently going to it every week. I'm still awful at speaking to crowds and going up on stage but there has been a (though marginal) noticeable difference in ability to get up and words. General communication remains iffy. (RICE reference goes here)

You've been successfully updated on the happenings of Eric Riccy. Press OK to continue.

Monday Crew

I've been having difficulties writing my radio shows lately, as the program I have to follow changed and it's wrecking my face in.
Abbridged version: I gotta jump from 5 minutes total talk time to OVER 20.
remember FNWER? remember how I can't make a vlog over 2 minutes ever
yeah.

I've gone through some radical ideas, most crazy a plan where I contemplated just voicing PTE posts on air.
Unfortunently, though PTE passes the 'no swearing' rule, it is too context-less for air. Thus, no PTE posts to air. (yay?)

I'll still be working out ideas, but sorry in advance from here if next weeks show is messy. WE GOING EXPERIMENTAL just like some blog you know...

In other news, a quick follow up to the last post: Yes I withheld from posting for a week to try to give maximum time for voting. The poll never closes! But this post will be the last to refer to it, at least for a little while. (PTE research shows making every post about the same thing doesn't fair well comment-wise. But it's not all about the comments. maybe.)
So far, Most people have chosen staying at home, which I can definitely understand. Theoretically that is the decision I should have made in 2011, as moving certainly led to every downside each other plan describes happening to me. That said, moving also led to meeting a certain someone, as well as learning many things about the real world, information so invaluable I have a hard time remembering how I lived without it.
Ultimately, there is no right answer. Just a question of BUT WHICH CHALLENGE DO YOU CHOOSE?

I've also found that every Monday a group of fellow broadcasters + LL + another mutual friend has been slowly growing in size. In contrast to my high school days, (and to my Hometown days..) I find this kind of amazing, how we're all sort of connecting and stuff.
I'm being a weirdo yeah i get it but c'mon it's like the reverse of what I'm used to.
WOO MONDAY CREW
I'll try not saying those words too much don't wanna seem a loser.

Next post I'll discuss my next year courses maybe

New City Vs. Hometown

If you thought this was going to be a post where I contemplate moving back to Hometown you are horribly mistaken.
I may make terrible decisions but c'mon even I know that that one at this time doesn't even make SENSE

Radio things. Yeah that.

Anyway, this post is about a certain someone I know trying to decide on plans for next year. She is still applying for post secondary school but she is uncertain on where to choose, especially if all schools accept her.
Thus, here at PTE we give the best life advice (see: Riccy Rules), so we are a natural choice for advice.
That said, this post is not about the advice I, Eric Riccy, have to give, but rather what advice you, the PTErs, have.
Below is a straw-poll of some potential Year 5 options. A vote is all that is asked, but if you have more advice to give, comment sections open as always too.

Also some context on the options:
Stay at Home means financial safety. It also means not experiencing any other city and also means living with parents. Also means not having significant other in person.
Move in with significant other means moving in with them and their family, which includes parents. The significant other is theoretically tied to this option.
Move in to a new city means any city (within region). New city means experience somewhere different, but financial strains and homesickness may occur. Also may or may not mean not having significant other in person.
Move in Hometown means staying in the same city but moving out of parents. The experience is not as extensive and financial strains may occur but it is a more fail-safe option. Also means not having significant other in person.

Also if the poll doesnt show up correctly see it here.

Maaaaan

You ever get that feeling like

You're listening to a song and you're like 'man I'd like to put this to air.'

'I mean, yeah ok it has "mother fucker" in it like 30 times.'

'But man I'd really like to put this to air.'

Radio Free Riccy: Not Banned Yet!

Ps before u worry no I'm not actually planning on putting sweary songs to air hopefully you read this in time welp theres the comment

So Remember how I was worried about copyrights with the original Radio project

If you're gonna ask for playbacks ever know that I tried once and got 17 copyright claims
in ONLY ONE HOUR OF MUSIC

long story short either catch it saturday or catch it never

I was upset but at this point I think it's hilarious

RADIO FREE RICCY EVERYBODY

Are The Jenny Games Sexist?

To begin this post, I'd like to mention some context.

Enter class last week: The class is commercial writing. I'm attempting to write a PSA geared towards youth on distracted driving.
I decide to make an ad based off a happenstance that my cousin claims he saw on the way to work. This happenstance is a daily fender bender at a certain street corner that always seemed to be caused by a distracted female driver.

I make an ad about it. The Prof makes her way around the classroom, checking on people's work to see what ideas are being relayed. (And to make sure plagiarism isn't occurring.) Upon reading mine, she gets uppity and asks why mine specifically has a female driver as the one causing the accident. I try to explain my basis with zero avail.
I rewrite the ad to make the person who caused the accident neutral in gender, because I do agree that it unintentionally contained sexism.

This event got me questioning how sexist my ideals are. Which led to the question of how sexist my creative works are.

If your mind is like mine, you probably immediately jumped to Jenny's Show.

Jenny's Show is an 'Interactive' flash movie about a girl named Jenny who strips for the viewer. She begins by saying she'll be 'your entertainment tonight, if you know what I mean', then proceeds to remove her top. She continues by removing her bra, but before her breasts are shown, Ric Olzow pops up and blocks them, asking what's going on. Then the screen changes to 'LOL', and goes back to main menu.

In my opinion (so you know you can stop reading here if you want to), There is no context on why Jenny is stripping. She simply states she'll be your entertainment, which could imply she's made the decision to strip herself. She then proceeds to strip herself, with no outside pressures telling her to. She never appears upset or distraught about losing clothes.

She does however get blocked before her breasts are exposed. If not for that occurrence being used as a punchline, this could be seen as body shaming.
As well, when tied to the male author, it could be seen that Jenny is the author's (that's how I'm referring to me k) puppet and he's forcing her to strip for the audience.
The subject matter can be argued as 'using female sexual stripping to gain viewers'. All these reasons tie into sexist ideals.

Whether the movie is sexist or not ultimately comes down to how it is perceived. It has a punchline, therefore it can be seen as a joke about expections of seeing girls strip purely for sexual pleasure.Whether that translates through however depends on the viewer.

If you've called Jenny's Show sexist, you've likely pointed a finger at Jenny's game as well.

A simple "dress-up" game, you can change Jenny's appearance, such as make up and hair colour. However, when attempting to alter her clothes, she gets upset and throws a GameCube at the viewer.
As you continue to mess with her clothing, she gets more upset, until she actually 'kills' the viewer. (Implied to be Ric Olzow by the face on the game over screen)

The content is again perception based. The point of the game seems to be getting killed for trying to strip Jenny. It is a less risque game, but the content still uses sexuality of a woman as it's basis, thus could still be classified as sexist. However, it again pokes at perceived expectations, which instead shines a light on sexism in society. Therefore, underlying messages could be classified as not making the game sexist, and instead, actually presenting a case about a societal construct.

Since we're on a roll with the Jenny games, the third and final (at this point) jenny game to question is the infamous Jenny's Quiz.

The formula changes, instead of the game being about Jenny and her sexuality, it claims Jenny to be a master of quizzes.

She is antagonized in this game, which could either be perceived as misogynistic since she's seen as an enemy, or can be perceived as empowering as the 'Final Boss' role is often claimed in games by male characters. The final boss is often seen as the 'toughest, strongest, most difficult' which again could be said to compliment Jenny positively. One could also classify however that having her being 'most difficult' could be alluding to the stereotype of females being "difficult."
(However that's a far stretching generalization that is more likely to be classified as sexist, so in this case would not add to the argument about Jenny being final boss as sexist.)

In the final bit of the game (spoilers warning I warned you k), the joke of Jenny showing her breasts returns, in allusion to the previous games. Again it point to sexist ideals, however as done before, Jenny is blocked at the last second by Ric Olzow again. It therefore is equal to Jenny's Show in being classifiable as sexist. (Which means it is again whether a joke translates to the viewer correctly.)

In conclusion, though not done in a particularly clear way, the Jenny Games seem to attempt to gain awareness on sexism and sexist ideologies, as opposed to condoning them.

Refined Radio Free Riccy

Despite being last minute (and me being sort of annoyed about being left in the dark about it..), things went through and
Radio Free Riccy will indeed now be on Saturdays From 6pm to 8pm.

I've updated the page with all the info now, so it's essentially complete. The first weekend of shifts happens to be optional due to Thanksgiving, however Radio Free Riccy is planned to have it's first show regardless. (Expect PTE level quality. I warned you k)

Also if you see on the site that it still says 4pm-6pm for RFR, know that I will be getting that fixed soon.

Cya on Saturday maybe!

RFR and the Troublesome Stomach

In regards to Radio Free Riccy, absolutely nothing is being done on a time swap thing so abridged version I've posted my original time slot and am sticking with it unless something actually happens. The Radio page has been updated. Also I may post chunks of my show on PTE for those who miss it (would be 15-30 minutes and probably the 'best' 15-30 minutes.)

More on that later.

In other news, It's hard to call this news because it's such a frequent event. My stomach has been giving me trouble as always, especially more than usual lately. In response to this, my ill states(sssssss) have inspired me to create a silly knockoff of the 'Advice Dog/Courage Wolf' meme.

It's made in MS Paint, so you know it's quality.

Anyway, for todays picture, The TROUBLESOME STOMACH:

And if it so inspires you, here's the template of the highest quality drawn stomach in the world:

Moving Forward

Get it?
Cuz PTE is a train?
And trains move forw-

ok I'll stop.

heheheheheh

In real news, You may notice a new tab. Gone are the days when I switch everything on PTE like musical chairs. I realize that a stable website tends to tell its visitors what it's doing instead of rearranging everything every 5 minutes leading to a confusing constant mess.

Hey it only took 5 years but I'M LEARNING!

So this new tab is the "Games" tab, which I know is real original.
Abbridged version is I've realized that uploading my work to Newgrounds is good for critiquing and getting known, however because of wanting to make small stuff that takes a day as opposed to big stuff that takes half a year, the lack of game length makes it hard to get much judgement on Newgrounds aside from "Make it longer" and "make it suck less" (and "Pjs stage is impossible").
That had created a conundrum as I want to make stuff and show it to people but I don't wanna have a billion low rated little games on my account.

The Solution? PTEr's get to see what sort of crazy little games I come up with! Each new one will be mentioned in a post (Like today for example, Which RO character has been bumped off. Now you can check out the latest!!: "PTE'D-HER-WAT")
I'll try to keep my games relative to PTE to make it make more sense as an addition to PTE. However I won't make any guarantees that every game will be.
I will guarentee however that no games will be "Jenny's Show Tier", in that I will try to make games that could be showed to a 5 year old without scarring them for life.
So E rated games.

I'm also contemplating doing some sort of PTE Affiliations type thing. I was originally thinking of doing a free advert type thing, but I wonder if it'd be more beneficial for whoever gets involved to have their name posted on a wall of affiliates as opposed to being a 1 in x shot of showing up. (Plus advert style has the stigma of being an advert, so random visitors would be less likely to click on it.) (I also am uncertain how Blogger would feel about me making my own version of advertising. Granted it would be free for both parties, but I'd still probably find a boundary...)

I am looking for opinions, please rip apart my silly ideas. (Only If you wanna though...)

All That Jazz

Reading this recently updated comment section reminds us all about the high quality of standard PTE strives for.

So very recently my uni held a club sign-up day, and after too many cheesy SOL animes and bad decisions I got the idea to try joining some.
And All.
That.
Jazz.
So I joined just two clubs. One was called the 'Rock and Heavier Society', which is a club dedicated to the enjoyment and spread of Rock and Heavy Metal. No formal meetings, just mostly a subscription to tell me about rock show venues as far as I know. Seems pretty cool, I think.
And then I joined the Improv club.
Now this is not some lead up to presenting an atrocious experience. But it is a lead up to something worth writing an entire PTE post about, so it's clearly something.
And All.
That.
Jazz.
If you're wondering why I keep making the Chicago joke, it's in reference to my high school days, when I once acted in the play Chicago. It went...decent enough...but that's moot to this post.
Why I post about it is because my first impression was it was surpringly massive. Lots of people showed up and it was kind of a confusing mess. Argueably though, it was the first meet post sign up so there is an expected influx of casuals.
The thing that I'm caught on is, I joined the club to try to get better at thinking fast on the spot and being witty. Figuring half of that is the point of improv, this seemed like a legit plan.
However I'm finding it more like a high school drama class with no teacher.
I've had my 3 year fill of the fun of high school drama class, and I'm not sure if spending two hours every week reliving the past is exactly what I want to be doing.
I'm vowing (and typing it here on PTE so I don't forget...) to give the club at least another two goes. Improv and drama could be just not suited for me. (Film certainly was, though ignore the fact that what I'm doing right now goes hand in hand with it k) I just found I enjoyed the club very minimally.
I don't want to ruin connections either because the guy who runs the club is also in my program and he's really nice but
All. That. Jazz.

So we'll see what happens. This may not be the last time you hear about the Improv Club.

Also I would have the times for my radio show but someone wants to switch spots with me on it and is being super slow about it and its driving me nuts and I'm probably just gonna talk to the director myself because FTS and yeah so RFR times coming soon k
And All. That. Jazz.

New Character?

After a challenge to create a character with a hat, a challenge similar to one leading to a certain other character, I've come up with this working design.

I've decided to try to include you, The PTErs, in on the character creation. If interested, I'm looking for some feedback.

1.Based on this drawing, what name(s) would you suggest for this character?
2. What logo's would you have for his Hat and/or T-shirt, if any? (Can't use copyrighted logos, so no coca colas...sorry)
3.What colours would you change?

Answer in the comments below if you're interested, else (or also) enjoy your tri-daily image dose:

5 YEARS 5 MANY

PTE TURNS 5 TODAY

How have we made it this far also can I delete PTE yet

No but seriously. I'm proud. Surprised, confused, questioning, contemplating, calculating, asking scientists, surprised again, befuddled, but proud.

Project: Rebirth

To further Celebrate PTE's milestone, I'm revealing exciting news. First and foremost, I'm (technically) bringing back and (essentially) completing the Radio Project. As I've mentioned, I've been given a radio show to run for the duration of my semester. I've decided to name it Radio Free Riccy, Ala flesh the PTE-born idea into an actual show.

For more details on it, check the NOW RETURNED Radio Page. All updates on that project will be posted there, with regular posts hinting when updating has occured.

As per my previous post, the Tayday Shennanigans page has been deleted.
All other PTE pages have also been edited to commemorate.

Quick Update on TayDay Shennanigans

After checking, it would appear that more content was added to the game, so now Tino and Tim would be more accurate. Since this now invalidates the shenanigans page, (and its also like 4 months old...) The Shennanigans page will be removed soon. How soon? Continue checking PTE to find out...

or don't, choice is yours really.

Reprieve

The snow has melted away, and it appears things will remain normal to season for at least the next two weeks. The tree damage throughout the city was extensive, however no trees around my house broke. (Luck? In my brutal week? It's more likely than you think!)
As per the accident, I've only got a pulled back muscle, so I'm quite lucky. The van's back bumper however, needs replacement. (Extent of damage still unknown. My mom also is in worse shape and needs more time to heal.)

I've been a bit of a nervous wreck since starting school. My presumptions are because so much is happening so fast, because this school is new, because different city (Still applicable), and because I have no idea what to expect. (No matter how much I know, every day continues to be a surprise.)
I'm getting better now, now that I've had all my classes at least once. That all said, my friend-making skills remain as bad as they've always been (See: Initiators and reciprocators. AKA Post of the Year 2014. FFS...)
Regardless, I try to remain as optimistic as I can. I've found myself digging through my music, trying to get things organized for the time slot. I'm so excited about it that I'm doing moot things for it. I don't even know the specifics yet, however I consider it the re-ignition of the radio project, therefore I think it's fair to be so excited.

I'll admit this post is all over the place. Just re-reading it I can see it's terribly woven together.I should learn to organize my ideas better, haha.

...Or not write posts when excited. But screw that, PTE IS ALL ABOUT QUALITY!

Extremely Unlucky

So I was in a minor car accident yesterday.

Also there's been 2 blizzards since Monday.

Also Also Trees have been falling apart due to weight from snow on their (green) leaves.

The Real DJ Riccy

It's fair to say that up until this point, the idea of me being a DJ was nothing more than an artist name for my digital music. I've always like the ring of the DJ title, and surprising to me was the fact that "DJ Riccy" did not seem to be a taken or used name. (After googling it, it seems the closest was a "DJ Ricci")

The reason I bring this up is beginning in October (Technically sooner, but the sooner stuff will be practice...) I will be assigned a DJ shift. It will be a 2 hour slot, and I will have choice over the music played. (I've been told that anyway, we'll see what plays out, all pun intended.) The time slot I get will be the one I have for at least the entire semester (~3 months).
If they give me a Friday night shift, FNWER may return.

I also hope to play some of the music I've made, as it technically fits their criteria, plus with it being owned by me, absolutely zero copyright issues. (Though I dunno about listening to it for 2 hours...I'll need real music for that, haha.)

SPORTS (The First Day)

Today was my first day of broadcasting classes. Both classes were essentially introductions of people in each class. The impression I got is that most people in both classes were big into sports or acting.

Abridged version is I feel like a weirdo among them so far, figuring I'm not super big into sports (not the activities, I mean the teams and NFL and that), and I've always been pretty mediocre at drama type stuff due to my shyness.
(Remember The Initiators and Reciprocators Post? Yeah. That's working extremely against me too.)

I can't say they've gone badly, but I'm not super optimistic about how things are going to turn out. I feel like I have little in common with many classmates, and that that will work against me very fast.

The good news is I'm not as nervous anymore! Just...fish out of water.

Reminiscence

PTE turns a whopping 5 years old this month! The banner I whipped up contains random posts from 2009, as well as the Year in Reviews that exist up to this point. It was interesting to go through old posts and see how my thinking, my vocabulary, even the way I type has all changed.

I remember I had colourized text in my first posts in hopes to make my posts more interesting than Snowfire's. That of course ended up backfiring as I kept messing with PTE's look, making the text's readability fluctuate. As well, I used to use a lot of emoticon text like ':D' and 'T_T'. I stopped using them as images (to an extent) took their place.

On to more modern times, I've fixed the PTE test your luck again. (It seemed stuck on Endless 8....) I've updated the What is PTE page a bit, and am contemplating some other updates.

There may be more posts this month reminiscing on PTE's changes. That said, with school starting in 3 days, school will likely take more of the spotlight. I can't say for certain what will happen.
But I can guarantee more posts soon.

Before you ask, yes I am excited about school. And nervous. Very nervous.

August 30th

I know I did a lot this summer, but still I wonder if I did enough?

Oh well, I guess I did do a lot...
Unless, there's something else I should post?

I guess that's it for today! I set tomorrow aside in case, but I guess we can take the day off. I'll see you guys in a new post on Monday!

"Go west, young man"

So I am back in New City.

I've been away in Hometown the past 3.5 weeks. The computer I had brought with me had immense keyboard issues, hence the sudden lack of posting. However I am now back and so is PTE.

The trip was nice overall, getting to catch up with friends and family and see how everyone is doing. I spent a solid week in tight quarters with many family, and managed to still have a pretty good time. I also got a longer trip than expected, as the leave day got bumped a solid 3 days.

I also managed to get sick again.
From the same thing that gave me food poisoning the first time, no less.
...
I'm doing better now though.

I also got a letter in the mail, apparently mailed the day before I left. I got accepted into the last of the unis I applied for, therefore all 3 unis and all 4 programs feigned interest. I am still going for the broadcasting program.

This post has too many full sentences. and I's.

Also happy birthday to my sister again
